It is always recommended to eat often and eat less. Instead of saving all the calories to the end of the day, try to have 5-6 small portions of meals in constant duration. It sounds little vague but it’s true. The mechanism behind this is based on TEF which is also called Thermic Effect of Feeding. It has been noticed that human body tends to burn the calories for each activity. Calories get burnt even from the consumption of the food to its processing.
Hence less you eat lower will be your TEF and the concept of weight gain is totally dependent on the TEF factor.
